Pirate Challenge 11: Dress like a Pirate!

Ahoy there me hearties!
Tis time for a new wardrobe...
Landlubbers and buccaneers are invited to Dress like a Pirate!

Task: 
Create a Pirate tricorn hat, 
A pair of ankle Pirate boots, 
A Galleon Coat
A pair of Glasses 

Glasses: Each lense frame must have a diameter of 6cm
Galleon coat: Must measure 15cm from the floor to the hem of the coat.
Boots: Must be made to come on and off


Supplies:
1.5 metres of tape
Sheets of newspaper                                      
Scissors
Groups of 3-4 members

You have 40 minutes! 

Test:
How far can your well dressed buccaneer walk without their clothes ripping?
The group who's buccaneer walks the furthest wins!

Pirate Challenge 10: Piñata Party on the Decks

This Pirate Challenge was created by

Ahoy there me hearties...
There's a party on the decks!
Landlubbers and buccaneers are invited to create a Piñata!

Task:
Build a piñata out of news paper and tape.
Make the piñata so that you are able to break it. 
Also make a strong stick / bat so you can hit the piñata.
You have 40 minutes!

Can you build a piñata to look like a geometric shape?

You will need:
A group of 4 - 5 people;
10 sheets of Newspaper;
Unlimited tape (but you will be judged on how little you use)
3 (wrapped) lollies for every member of your group;
Measuring tape/measuring stick.


After you have created your piñata:
Measure the volume/area of your pinata then smash it in till it breaks. (You get to eat the sweets at the end!!!)

After the challenge:
1.What was tricky about the challenge?
2.What would you do differently next time?
3.Where is the math in this Pirate Challenge?
4.Who or what influenced or inspired your ideas?

Pirate Challenge 9: Build a Shelter

AHOY THERE Buccaneers!
Your ship has capsized.
You and the crew are marooned on an island. 

Your task:
Build a shelter using only
1 metre of masking tape
1 metre of string
10 sheets of news paper

Can you create a shelter that will fit a fellow bucaneer?
ARRRRRRGHHHHH!!!!!
